Nice Warm Weekend
Our nice warm weather is continuing. I guess it's actually warmer than normal for this time of year. One gal at church yesterday said she was tired of the hot weather, but then it is always warmer down there. To us it's just right--sunny days but not too warm--and cool nights. The winters always seem so long, so the longer we can have the nice weather, the better. The colors are really turning now at the higher altitudes. It's mostly aspen trees and once they turn to gold, the color doesn't last long and the leaves drop rather quickly. Our aspen tree by the house has hardly changed at all and it will probably be a couple of weeks yet.We did not do much of anything this weekend. I cleaned house some but still have to do the upstairs level. Last evening we had something to go to for church. Kind of a quiet weekend, but sometimes that's just fine with me. ... (more)
Another Birthday to Remember
Just thinking about Pop today and how long he has been gone. I was mentioning to Dennis that this would have been his 99th birthday. Hard to believe. But now Mom is with him again.
Last Weekend of Summer
After a week of very nice weather, it seems to be continuing. Had a short downpour this afternoon, and it did make the temperature drop to around 60 degrees. It has been a fairly busy week. Tuesday we had our pictures taken for the church directory. We didn't order any, but had the picture taken so it would be in the directory. It helps the newer pastors and others. I know I refer to the directory quite often to try to put a face with a name. Then on Tuesday evening we had voters' meeting. Arranged the picture taking so that we would only have to make one trip.
The rest of the week has been rather routine. Worked outside one day. There will still be a lot of cleanup of flowers, etc. but right now they are still blooming. I usually wait until after a frost to do all that. Yesterday there was a deer laying down inside our fence. I left it pretty much alone until it looked like it was going to go over and munch on my tomato ... (more)
Remembering Mom
Today is one of many firsts that will come up in the next year. First birthday to not send a card and call to wish her a happy birthday. I have been anticipating this day with some dread. So far it has gone okay. Made it through church okay. We normally go to the early contemporary service and sometimes there are songs that will bring tears. Today we didn't sing any of those except maybe one, but in a way they were more more joyful tears because the song is about Jesus coming for us and praying that he will come soon. I remember one time Mom telling me that when she went, she said to be happy for her. And I am happy for her just knowing and thinking about the wonder and awe that she is experiencing. But as I write this the tears still come, because I miss her and think about her every day. We went with several neighbors for lunch today and tonight we are also going to be gone with some folks from church. ... (more)
Rainy and Dreary
A front came through yesterday. Last night when we were coming home from our Bible study at church, it was raining pretty hard. It's very dreary and raining this morning. I heard it was snowing at around 10,00 feet. Glad it isn't at our altitude yet. It's around 48 to 50 degrees. It is supposed to clear out later today and the weekend should be sunny and nice again. But I think fall weather is definitely here. Time to pack away the shorts.
Back Home
We're back home again. Arrived home about 5:15 MDT. It was a bit cloudy here on Friday morning when we left but as we drove about 30 or so miles west it was sunny and beautiful for the whole weekend. Nice warm days but the nights were really chilly. The town of Ouray sits in a valley or canyon so once the sun goes down it gets really cool. On Saturday we drove over to Telluride. Had never been there before. The drive over was beautiful but didn't like the town all that well. Not sure what the big attraction is. They do have skiing there (which we don't do) but as far as the shops, etc. there are a lot nicer towns. Almost seemed a bit "hippie-like". They also have a big bluegrass festival over there every year, and we do like bluegrass, but I'm sure we wouldn't like all the people. We left around 8:30 this morning and took a little bit different route home. ... (more)
Weekend Plans
Getting ready to leave for a three day trip to Ouray, CO which is in the southwestern area of the state. It's with our local chapter of our car club. I think there's around six couples or so that are going. No car judging or anything this time-just doing it for relaxation. We should be back on Sunday. Tonight our LifeLight Bible study started again. This week we only picked up the materials and got acquainted with our small groups. So we begin our homework this week with the discussion starting next Thursday. One couple in the group is named Goeglein. They had been in our small group before, but found out tonight that the man's grandfather was part of the Goegleins in Fort Wayne. In fact, they had been back in the last year or so to some kind of reunion at Goeglein's barn. Small world.
My Week in Review
It's Sunday morning, well, at least for another half hour. Went to early church and visited over coffee with friends. Our new vicar preached today. Not a whole lot new since I wrote my beginning entry. Worked outside a little bit this week in addtion to the usual things. There was a slash collection in a field by the fire station yesterday, so Dennis cut down a few more of the lower dead limbs on the trees this week and we dragged and hauled them over by our driveway. Yesterday he then hauled a flat bed trailer heaping with the slash. Borrowed the flat bed from a neighbor. The weather has been really nice. The evenings are staying a lot cooler but the days are sunny and just warm enough. Walked with a couple of neighbors again on Friday.
The other day I was watering my flower beds just a little because I wasn't sure if it would rain or not (it didn't). ... (more)
