Riding the Train
Tomorrow we're going to be going to Chama, NM to ride the train between Chama and Antonito, CO. We did it last year and it was a lot of fun. Another couple will be riding with us and two other couples are also going from CO. There are four couples coming up from New Mexico. We stay in Chama because there's more places available there. On Saturday morning a bus takes everyone up to Antonito and then we ride the train back. It holds a few hundred people, I think. It takes almost the whole day (they serve lunch at a midway point) so we'll stay in Chama again on Saturday night and come home on Sunday. Last year the weather was beautiful but I'm not so sure it's going to be as nice this time. I think they are predicting rain showers and so it will probably feel cold. I'm still trying to figure out what to take so I'll be warm enough. Trying to pack light since there's another couple with us in the HHR. The train is part of the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Guage. Our friend from New Mexico is on the board and he arranges the tickets for us. Will write more later.three comments:
So is this a steam engine or a diesel? Either way – sounds like fun. I love trains.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Is it anything like the ride between Durango and Silverton? I remember going on that and it was a beautiful ride although it wasn’t that far. It is always hard to know what to pack when the weather is so unpredictable. I know I’m having a hard time deciding what to wear to work. Have a good time!

I’ve never been on the Durango and Silverton one. After we ride the bus up, I think we get on the train about 10:00 and get back at 4:00, but there is the mid-way stop at an old depot around noon where they serve a big lunch. I know last year we were pretty tired by the time we got back, all the fresh air and such.
