Home Again and Brrr!

We got home between 2:30 and 3:00 this afternoon.  Friday the weather was fairly nice all the way down.  On Saturday morning we boarded the bus and went up to board the train in Antonito.  It is a steam run engine and the route we took is about all that is left of the narrow guage that has been preserved.  Narrow guage is only three feet between rails and was built more narrowly so it could maneuver through the mountain passes easier.  The skies were pretty dark and the weather forecast came true.  By the time we came out from the lunch stop, it was raining.  At times it was raining pretty hard, so time spent at the back of the caboose or in the open car was pretty short.  The colors were still pretty, but last week or the week before was probably the peak.  I didn't take very many pictures, because by the time we got to the pretty area, it was raining.  Then last night  we heard loud thunder during the night and it rained really hard, probably with a mixture of sleet.  When we left this morning it was clear but very cold and as we were climbing up into the mountains and reached Cumbres Pass there was some icy, slushy mixture on the roads.  There were also some large fallen trees along the road, so there must have been some really high winds.  Needless to say I was glad after we came down again to a lower altitude and the roads were dry once again.  When we arrived home it was foggy and misting some.  Some of the areas in the mountains had gotten a dusting of snow, but I don't think we got any.  It doesn't look like my flowers froze yet but I'm sure tonight will get them.  I guess it's time and then I can start to clean up the pots, etc.  We may even get a rain/snow mix by early morning.  Also had to turn the heat up because I had made sure it was at about 55 or so when we left and it was pretty chilly.  Dennis built a fire in the fireplace, too, so that makes it cozy.  All in all, it was a fun weekend.  We met some new people and everyone seemed to mix pretty well.  But as always, it is nice to be home.  Didn't sleep that well either night.    Next week Dennis has to go back down that way but only farther, to Albuquerque.  Since he's regional director, he's going to the NM Chapter meet.  I am most likely going along as I know a lot of those people.  I have changed my mind a couple of timesas to whether I'm going or not.  Guess I'll figure it out by Thursday.  I think tonight it will be a little TV and early to bed.

I’m glad you had a good time even though the weather sounds like it wasn’t so good. I wish we could have sent you some of ours. It was 80 most of the weekend. It’s hard to believe it’s time for that white stuff. Glad you made it home safely. Get some good rest.

Sounds like fun. Like I said earlier. I love railroads – especially steam.
