Back Home.....Again
We got down to New Mexico on Friday around 4 o'clock or so. After getting to our friends' house we went over to another couple's house for appetizers and a drink and then we all went to dinner. They had been on the train ride the previous week. They have two male Yorkies, Pete and Ernie. Cute as can be but a bit overweight. The guy, Art is building a train room in a special building outside. Not really a garage but about that size, but a separate building. He has the background walls painted with sky, clouds, trees and other scenery. Pretty neat. Our friend Dan is doing the same thing but his is not quite as far along. Both rooms will be modeled after certain routes of the old railroad.
On Saturday we went to the NM Chapter meet. Dennis helped judge and I helped tabulate. They got finished around 1 o'clock (only four cars to judge)after which some of us went to lunch. Then we stopped at another couple's house and Dennis got a bunch of bumpers and stuff from him. In the evening we were at our friends' house and just had a light supper there, as we had eaten lunch rather late.
Sunday morning we all (us and the couple we were staying with) met up for breakfast with another couple who live about 20 minutes away and it was on our way home. We came back on the interstate (25) instead of coming home through the mountains. Stopped at Monument, CO just north of CO Springs. Some other friends live there and their young relative, Svenja, was visiting from Germany. We had met her on previous occasions, as she came and lived with them for a year and went to high school here, sort of like an exchange student, except she was related to Eckhard, who is originally from Germany. She usually comes over every year. They actually had the party for her (Octoberfest) on Saturday, but since we couldn't go then, we stopped on the way home and had leftovers. Pretty good--brats, sauerkraut, German potato salad. We got back home around 7:00, just after it was dark.
The weather was really nice the whole weekend and apparently was nice here, too. We saw a lot of antelope along the highways in the southern part of Colorado and in New Mexico. Today it got very windy and is now raining rather hard, with lightning and thunder. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of snow in the morning, but it is supposed to warm up again by Thursday. Dennis is leaving again tomorrow for a regional judging meet in Waco, TX. Two other guys are riding with him. It just turned out that all these activities came at once, but I am glad to be staying home this time. I need to clean house and get some stuff done here. That's it, I think, until later.
one comment:
Sounds you like you had a busy weekend. I don’t envy you the snow. I am not liking the cold weather and it is not all that cold yet. Just dread winter.
